March 1st, 2006This is a scan of the actual fortune that came out of a fortune cookie when my wife brought Chinese food home the other night. Something about this just isn’t right. Give me a fortune, not an upsell. I felt like Ralphie in A Christmas Story after he breathlessly decoded his Little Orphan Annie secret message. Sheesh.
Takeaway for marketers: Just because you can put an ad somewhere doesn’t mean you should put an ad somewhere.

Great Ralphie reference — I use that all the time for big let downs. I call it an “Ovaltine moment.”
