Cold Calling
December 3rd, 2008While the discussions in LinkedIn groups tend to be top-heavy with self-promotion, there’s some interesting stuff happening there, too.
One thread on the eMarketing Association Network discussion forum began yesterday with the simplest of questions: “What is cold calling?”
The answers were fascinating, ranging from “the most effective tool we sales and marketers can use” to “an emergency measure and a clear sign that your lead generation efforts are failing.”
I would go further, and in fact did: I find cold-calling to be spammy and obnoxious. If someone cold-calls me, it’s a litmus test: I’ll never use their service or product. Ever. It’s one of the worst forms of interruption marketing conceivable.
Just puttin’ it out there.
