Extending The Brand

Best of all, they can never change channels!

NICKELODEON LAUNCHES CHANNEL FOR KIDS IN UTERO
New York (Aug. 23) — Nickelodeon today announced the formation of the NickU network, to launch nine months from now. NickU (the “U” stands for “uterine”) will focus on programming for children developing in the womb.

“For years, parents have played classical music for children in utero to stimulate their developing minds,” explained Richard Brompton, VP of In Utero Programming for MTV Networks. “Similarly, NickU will be designed to stimulate, educate, and entertain. We’re always looking to extend the Nickelodeon franchise to wherever kids are. NickU is a very logical step for us.”

Programming for NickU is still in development, but two initial series include an as-yet-unnamed brand extension of Spongebob Squarepants, in which Spongebob and pals engage in hilarious antics not beneath the sea, but in the amniotic fluid, and Dora the Vaginal Explorer, intended to prepare fetuses for best experiencing the miracle of birth.

Okay, satire’s over. But: they’re getting closer. So are they.

SPIKE TO LAUNCH CHANNEL AIMED AT SPERM
In an effort at having more balls in the air, testosterone based SPIKE TV announced it is launching POKE TV – a specialty channel that will market directly to sperm. Program executives said the new channel had been “in the embryonic stage” for a few years but the time to have it stand up and be noticed is now. “We want sperm everywhere exposed to this new service” stated program execs for the channel, “and fully understand that life is a journey that starts with stimulation”. Though a full program slate was still being developed at press time, the new channel has already booked the spin-off Boobwatch, morning exercise strip Left Hand Workout and a new daily talk show, The Vagina Dialogues. New programming will be added in spurts based on seasonality and acceptance. POKE TV is a natural extension for SPIKE as the channel “supports the upstanding manner in which SPIKE has always delivered its message”.
