SEO Sorcery

Thursday, November 10th, 2011

Mashable had a pretty good post the other day about best practices for SEO. As an editorial professional for ::mumble:: years, I particularly liked number four, which noted that “good writers are sorcerers.” Proving once again that, like so much of online marketing, there’s as much art involved as there is science.

Watch It Wednesday

I’m really looking forward to seeing How To Succeed In Business (Without Really Trying) on Broadway this coming Saturday. It’ll be my second time seeing it with Daniel Radcliffe and John Laroquette, and I’m glad to have gotten tickets before Radcliffe leaves the show at the end of December. Sure, his name put a lot of butts in seats, but he puts in an amazing effort. “Brotherhood of Man” blows the roof off the dump, and the video embedded here is Radcliffe and company performing that song at the Tonys earlier this year. Or, if you want another excellent take on the tune, check out this clip from the Drew Carey Show.

Social Media Examiner presents an excellent post by Phil Mershon, 26 Promising Social Media Stats for Small Businesses. It’s not the stats that are the meat of this post, though, it’s the key takeaways, especially this one: “Be sure to integrate your social media efforts with your website and mail efforts (online and offline).” Spot on.

If not, it’s in the top 10 of all time, for sure. I wish I’d come up with this one: “5 Email Marketing Lessons from Nigerian Scam Letters.” Read it over here.

Infuriating

I hate seeing ads like this, and I certainly expected more from Hammacher Schlemmer.

An 8-gig thumb drive for $59.95? Really?

Go to Staples and get a thumb drive at twice the storage for one-third the price. Or go to Amazon and get a terrabyte of storage for just a few bucks more.

I’ve often been tempted by the Hammacher Schlemmer catalog. They seem to have some interesting stuff in there. But if this is typical of their products, their catalogs are headed straight into the garbage from now on.
