Rock Your Social Media Marketing

Monday, July 11th, 2011

Mashable offers these 10 best practices for bands on Facebook. Not surprisingly, these best practices apply to any company that’s developing a social media presence. Think “customers” when you see “fans” and … well, you know how to carry through the metaphor.

Need To Build An Inexpensive Website?

Mashable offers five ways to do so. I like that they named Squarespace top of their list, mainly because I’ve used it for years and continue to recommend it to people.

More Widespread … But Does It Matter?

Saturday, July 9th, 2011

Scanning the news this morning, I saw this article in Mashable about how Google’s +1 button is more widespread than Twitter’s tweet button.

That may be. But if it is, people clearly don’t use it as much … or at least Mashable readers don’t: That very article was shared nearly four times more often (as of this morning at about 7:30 a.m. eastern time) via Twitter than via Google, and not once via Facebook.

Which isn’t really surprising. One would think Mashable’s readers to be more about Twitter and less about Facebook. That Google’s +1 is so low feels odd, though,  given the number of early adopters that hang out there. But hey: the numbers are the numbers.

I can imagine the tweet, like and +1 buttons eventually affecting marketing budgets:

“Hey, Carl, should be be advertising our product on Facebook or Google?”

“Well, I don’t know, Jim, let me — hey, we got four times as many shares with +1 than with the like button; screw the Facebook ads, lets double down on our PPC.”
