Marketing Predictions for 2010

Yesterday I presented links to a dozen sets of predictions for 2011. Today, let’s look back and see what 10 members of the digital punditocracy anticipated for the year just past:

What’s great about so many of these predictions is that it’s patently impossible to tell whether they’re true or not.

For example: Email Insider predicted that “opt-out processes will become friendlier.” Have they? I suppose you can say yes or no for any given site, but as an industry-wide trend that’s about as fuzzy as it gets.

So I’m going to go out on a limb *cough* and make my three big predictions for 2011:

(1) Companies will be spending more marketing dollars online in 2011 than they did in 2010.

(2) Customers will be using mobile devices for comparison shopping more often in 2011 than they did in 2010.

(3) Companies that haven’t been involved in social media outreach in 2010 will start to make the effort to do so in 2011.

C’mon, 2011 — bring it on!
