Is Email Becoming Obsolete?
Saturday, June 19th, 2010Facebook’s COO Sheryl Sandberg is getting a lot of attention for recently saying that email may become obsolete.
Of course, the death of email has been predicted before: By the Wall Street Journal in 2009, by blogs like this one in 2008, by Slate in 2007, by articles like this one in 2006.
As you can see by this chart, social media usage has surpassed that of email, but the trend line for email is still on the rise.
So the answer is clearly: no, email is not becoming obsolete. Articles about the impending death of email, though, are.
