Hey, Sorkin: Time To Revisit The West Wing

May 1st, 2010

I hesitate to post anything much about teevee, since Joe Bua does it all so much better than I do over on his blog, but it’s really hot out today, and all I wanna do is veg in front of the big screen with a stack of DVDs.

Lately I’ve been watching the early seasons of The West Wing (only up to season four; as far as I’m concerned, the show jumped the shark when Zoey Bartlett got kidnapped) and I’m struck by two things:

(1) It’s remarkable how so many of the issues addressed in the series are incredibly, and in some cases painfully, relevant a decade later.

(2) Aaron Sorkin needs to strike a deal with Rob Lowe and HBO for a new series: Seaborn. The foreshadowing of Sam Seaborn becoming President later in his career is all over the series, we’re living in very politically charged times and HBO would give Sorkin the latitude to one-up his own creation. Not to mention that HBO can always use another tentpole series.
