Rhetorical Question of the Day

April 25th, 2010

If the Take 10 census participation map says that my town’s census participation rate is 74 percent, then doesn’t that mean they necessarily know how many people are in my town? Otherwise how do they know it’s not 72 percent or 76 percent or something else entirely? Hmmmmmm.

maybe you can find the exact # for every town in a wiki article these days. or do they mean the participation rate?

They mean participation rate. Though to know what percentage of the population is participating, you necessarily need to know the size of that population, which seems to beg the question of why you’re doing a census. [/snark] I presume they really mean percentage of forms sent out that have been returned.
