Please Rob Me
February 18th, 2010Please Rob Me is a smart way of raising awareness about the downside of location-aware services. As they explain on their Why page:
The goal of this website is to raise some awareness on this issue and have people think about how they use services like Foursquare, Brightkite, Google Buzz etc. Because all this site is, is a dressed up Twitter search page. Everybody can get this information.
Thanks to HuffPo for the heads up on this one.
FEBRUARY 19 UPDATE: Foursquare Responds to Please Rob Me: Please Shut Up (via TechCrunch)

No, please rob me is funny but dumb. We already know our doctors and dentist aren’t home during the day. Ever hear of banker’s hours – where do you think they are during that time? Where is my council member during council meetings? Where is a tv anchor during a broadcast? Or a radio DJ? Have I made my point yet?
Now days we have alarms, dna evidence, cell phone tracking, security cameras, license plate cameras (that’s the latest), so why are we worried about tweets and facebook status updates.
Yes, cell phone location tracking can be evil, but that’s a whole different issue.
