Digital Media Wire reports that CyberMonday sales increased 15 percent over last year. That’s according to comScore, which measured U.S. Internet audience at 182 million in October 2007 and 190 million a year later — an increase of 4.4 percent over last year, which accounts for some of that 15 percent. Then again, comScore also predicted flat growth for 2008 holiday online spending, so go figure.
While the discussions in LinkedIn groups tend to be top-heavy with self-promotion, there’s some interesting stuff happening there, too.
One thread on the eMarketing Association Network discussion forum began yesterday with the simplest of questions: “What is cold calling?”
The answers were fascinating, ranging from “the most effective tool we sales and marketers can use” to “an emergency measure and a clear sign that your lead generation efforts are failing.”
I would go further, and in fact did: I find cold-calling to be spammy and obnoxious. If someone cold-calls me, it’s a litmus test: I’ll never use their service or product. Ever. It’s one of the worst forms of interruption marketing conceivable.
Just puttin’ it out there.
