Virtual Worlds 2008

I spent yesterday at Virtual Worlds 2008 in New York City. The show has its own blog, but unlike the ad:tech blog, it’s more about logistics and less about content. Too bad. The sessions I attended were pretty poor, but I missed one that received raves from several people I spoke with: “Case Study: Virtual Worlds Promotion Strategies of Rapper 50 Cent.” I’d like to be able to read some insight into what I missed.

After that session, I joined Dr. Jim Bower and Erin Edgerton from the CDC in a panel presentation, “Case Study: Business Models of Whyville.net.” Considering it was the last session on a Friday afternoon, the number of attendees who stuck around to hear what we had to say was pretty impressive. I trust they felt it was worth it — we provided actual data, and there was nary a buzzword spoken from the table.
