Change Your Clocks … But Why?
March 9th, 2008Yep, it’s time to move the clocks ahead already. But have you ever really thought about the origins and effects of DST?
For example: Many people believe that DST helps save energy, but a 2008 study examined electricity billing data in Indiana before and after it adopted DST in 2006, and concluded that DST increased electricity consumption by 1% to 4%, primarily due to extra afternoon cooling.
Or this: Clock shifts correlate with decreased economic efficiency. In 2000 the daylight-saving effect implied an estimated one-day loss of $31 billion on U.S. stock exchanges.
Gotta love Wikipedia for stuff like this.
