Paul McCartney (TM)

Paul McCartney wants to trademark himself, according to this article. Smart move, and I can’t imagine any reason why anyone would object, except to try and grab 30 seconds of fame. (According to the article, “anyone who thinks the singer should not hold exclusive rights to the name can register an objection.”)

But poking aorund Google for a little more on this story led me to The Trademark Blog, which is a pretty interesting site if you deal with trademark issues now and again and you have some time to click around and read.

Enough! Enough with all the advertising!

The other day, USA Today had a pretty good article that was sort of a high-level State of the Union of advertising. The pithy summary comes via Max Kalehoff of Nielsen BuzzMetrics: “The more consumers ignore ads, the more ads marketers spew back at them.”

Takeaway for marketers: Don’t interrupt. Engage.
