Digi-Portraits

Thank you, Lina!

LOHAD has undergone a small design change: That cocktail party caricature of yours truly has been replaced by a sleek new digi-portrait. Thanks to Lina Chen (who does some pretty funky bunny art, among other things in her cool portfolio) for bringing me into the 21st century.

Adcandy: Where consumers make the ads

Adcandy hopes to be a leader in the world of marketing messages created by the general public. I think they’d be better served, though, if they started referring to their audience as “customers” and not “consumers.” They should probably get rid of the Google ads on the site, too: I would think they aspire to more than the pocket change they make from AdSense.

Takeaway for marketers: “Consumers” may make sense for marketing plans, internal discussions and the federal price index, but people want to be “customers” — with all the levels of conversation and service that word implies.

Concerned About Plagiarism?

I wonder if they'd be concerned about this logo being here ... hmmmm ...

If so, you ought to know about Copyscape. Enter any URL from your site, click “go,” and see if your content’s being used somewhere else on the Web.

Quote o’ the Day

Audrey Hepburn

“For attractive lips, speak words of kindness. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people. For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry. For beautiful hair, let a child run his or her fingers through it once a day. For poise, walk with the knowledge that you’ll never walk alone.”

eComXpo

Thursday, April 6th, 2006

You don't get T-shirts or tote bags, but hey ...

If you’re into online marketing, you missed out on a pretty good deal: Virtual trade show eComXpo ends today. If nothing else, the price was right: free.

Who was exhibiting? Well, there were five Platinum Sponsors: Digital River, oneNetworks, LinkShare, MSN, Performics and Yahoo! The 44 Gold Sponsors included 1-800-Flowers, ad:tech, LookSmart, Shop.org and Target. Among the 54 Premium Booths were CafePress, eMarketer, Overstock.com, PRWeb and Sharper Image. And among the 37 standard booths: Audible.com, Orbitz, RealNetworks, Financial Times and Virtumundo.

Despite the impression given by all those names that a very wide variety of companies participated in the Xpo, the reality is that the majority were focused on affiliate marketing. If you weren’t into affiliate marketing, though, it was still easy enough to focus on the exhibitors you found relevant. And if you wanted a takeaway, there’s eComXpo University: access to 160+ presentations for just $49.95.

Some quick clicking around the Xpo search function, napkin math and guesstimating indicates in the neighborhood of 5,000 attendees, about 2,000 of which were associated with exhibitors. (Update on April 7: eComExpo’s post-event email notes, “We had over 7,000 registrants, 237 exhibitors and 20 keynote and panel presentations!”)
