Black Friday and … Cyber Monday?
November 21st, 2005DMNews reports that the National Retail Federation’s Shop.org online division is trying to position the Monday after Thanksgiving as the official kickoff to the online holiday shopping season, in much the same way as the Friday after Thanksgiving kicks off the retail shopping frenzy.
Aside from this just sorta feeling crass and gross (and doesn’t “Cyber Monday” imply that more than shopping is going on?), I think they’re about a month off the mark. Couple the “oh, crap, I haven’t finished my shopping yet!” sensibility with the timeliness of overnight delivery services, and I think the true kickoff to the online holiday shopping season is probably more like December 22.
