The Golden Rule of Online Interaction …
March 17th, 2010… is this: Never post anything online that you wouldn’t want your mother to see on a billboard in Times Square.
It’s something to always keep in mind, of course, but it’s worth remembering once more in light of this article in today’s NY Times. Entitled, “How Privacy Vanishes Online,” it’s a good read. Among the troubling points made:
“In a paper published last year, Alessandro Acquisti and Ralph Gross reported that they could accurately predict the full, nine-digit Social Security numbers for 8.5 percent of the people born in the United States between 1989 and 2003 — nearly five million individuals.”
Privacy: It ain’t what it used to be.
